Ken Doyle, PhD
is a financial psychologist on the tenured faculty of the University of Minnesota. A retired financial planner, he has held licenses in general securities, life/health insurance, and real estate, as well as psychology. He has a long-standing interest in the financial issues of the elderly. He studied philosophy at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome, and Marquette University, Milwaukee; and psychology at the University of Minnesota--Twin Cities, where he still teaches on the Strategic Communication faculty. Convener of the Minnesota chapter of the Circumnavigators Club and founding president of the Association for Financial Psychology, he is particularly interested in why people around the world do what they do with their money and property. He is author of Wealth Accumulation and Management and Global Investing (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants), The Social Meanings of Money and Property: In search of a talisman (Sage), and numerous other books and articles. He is the father of an adult daughter who is married and studying in Germany.
Larry Houk, JD
is an attorney in private practice in Roseville, Minnesota, specializing in financial and estate planning for individuals and small businesses, particularly the legal and estate planning issues of the elderly. He holds a BA in Political Science from Bethel College, St. Paul, and a JD from the University of Minnesota Law School. A popular regional and national speaker on many legal and financial topics, he is author of A Layman’s Guide to Understanding Wills, Trusts and Probate and co-author (with Ken Doyle) of The Spend-Down Solution: How to deal with the financial and emotional costs of long-term healthcare. He is married, the father of three adult children, and the grandfather of four. Accordingly, the topic of this book is of intense personal as well as professional interest.
